Oh My Goodness
The only thing that got me up and moving this morning was the fact that Bruce was up and moving. Seriously. Otherwise I was quite content to stay under the covers and sleep. For like another hour. 4:00 in the morning is an UNGODLY hour to work out. And once you make up your mind to do so it’s one of those things that can be completely changed with a set of crisp sheets.
But Bruce got up. So I got up.

I saw the dvd that was in and my first reaction was “The first day isn’t Plyo!” but apparently it is. That seemed unfair then and it seems unfair now. As my thighs burn. But I’ll be honest, It’s a lot more fair on THIS side, at 8:03 when my workout is DONE and I can eat my oatmeal and drink my coffee in postworkout bliss.
How was it?
Insanity was hard 30 pounds ago. It is harder now, somehow. But this time I can do more of it. Push myself harder. I think because of running and my enhanced cardio stamnina. So I don’t get as many breaks and my form - while still not great in some places - is better. Although at the end I always break. Shaun T always breaks me. There will be a point, sometime, when he won’t. But right now, he still does.
So … yeah. Plyo was successful. and I got through the warm up without stopping. To those of you who say so what, it’s just a warm up, I dare you to try it. Really. Dare you.

Day one of month 2 is both the Fit Test and Max Interval Circuit. I cheated a little. I did the fit test yesterday (will post results later today) and then Max Interval this morning. And I’m SO glad I did. Max Interval Circuit is 12 minutes of warm up, 4 minutes of stretching, and then 45 minutes of 9 – 12 minute circuits. Right about the 30 minute mark I looked up and realized – oh wait, there are still 30 minutes left on the clock. What!?!?!?
It is definitely more grueling than Month 1, pulling, prodding, and pushing at every muscle in a different way than Month 1 ever does even though some of the exercises look or are very familiar. And if they don’t look familiar from Month 1, then they will from Turbo Jam – because there are at least half a dozen Turbo exercises slipped it – but they’re “Insane” – so a little more High Intensity. Particularly since they come in the middle of a round of Max Interval Training. Which is, I’m sorry Chalene, more intense than high interval training .. and that’s from me, who still wants to be a trainer to Turbo. I still love it. I just am feeling the Insanity High.
Did I mention that Aaron has started to be awake while I’m working out again? This means that during some of the parts of the workout I was doing the exercises over a child. Or doing jumps push ups while watching a giggling little boy … or that during the “rest” section – thirty seconds to drink some water – I was laying him down to play or drink some milk or eat some cereal bar. Take a challenging workout and add a level.
After I was done I was STARVING.
Unfortunately I was also running LATE. So two hours later I got to work and ate an omelet and a small side of oatmeal. I love burning over a thousand calories before breakfast … it’s a great feeling.

What is a good reason for not working out? I asked myself this as I drove home last night from a dinner with clients. The clock in the dash clicked 9:15 and, while that might not be late in your world, it is late to get home in mine. Not to mention I was coming from a dinner where I had eaten a filet with sides that included broccoli with garlic, mac & cheese (some gourmet type), white cheddar potatoes au gratin, a wedge salad, and Cheesecake. Crumbly, yummy, cheesecake, with the graham cracker crust.
But I guess all of that wasn’t a good enough reason because in my head all I heard (again) was Shaun T’s voice in the dead of the night. I mean morming.
Then I got up and dug.
And you know? I’m really glad I did. Because when I did my café day, with people who hadn’t seen me for a few months (not years, not decades, months) – funny things happened.
- People introduced themselves to me
- People asked if I’d had a baby (I have – but that’s not what they’re noticing, or at least not all!)
- People NOTICED
That felt good. And I didn’t feel hypocritical because I’d stayed true to my work outs and to myself and dug deeper.
So … maybe the answer is, no reason.

Insanity starts with Shaun T, Tania, and a nameless guy working with you to get you set up for Insanity. You run through 8 exercises and see how you compare – to them on Week One, and to yourself on every other week. Well thank God I’ve tried (and failed) at this before, so I had myself to compare favorably to. Compared to Tania and nameless guy I look pretty miserable but compared to myself I did all right!
Week One Results;
Switch Kicks: 48
Power Jacks: 30
Power Knees: 79
Suicide Jumps: 5
Push Up ish things: 5
Low Planks: 42
To be fair I didn’t understand how to do the Globe Jumps so Bruce and I discussed it for most of the time while I tried to do them, apparently incorrectly. I gave myself a 3 for effort even though I jumped and sweated more than that.
I was going to do Turbo Fire but after completing Turbo Jam it just seemed like I needed to switch things up before getting P90x2 in the mail. That being said, I’m keeping my copy of Turbo Fire to do at a later date … but today Insanity is just what I’m looking for. If you want a blog about Turbo Fire, check out Bruce’s at www.dsafitness.tumblr.com – he started today and will be writing about how I flaked, no doubt.
Since I did Plyo for Insanity (technically tomorrow’s workout) yesterday, I’m not sure what I’ll do tomorrow, but I’ll figure something out. Now … off to Labor Day with breakfast and birthday parties, and children, oh my!!
